CNP Nashik starts printing of new Rs 20 currency notes

NASHIK: The Currency Note Press (CNP) in Nashik - a unit of Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Ltd (SMPCIL) - has finally started printing of new currency note of Rs20 denomination.
In April 2018, the RBI had made an official announcement that it will shortly issue Rs20 denomination currency notes, Mahatma Gandhi (New) series, bearing signature of governor Shaktikanta Das.
The new Rs20 note is greenish-yellow in colour. "We have already started printing the new Rs20 currency note. We will gradually increase the printing from current 1 million pieces to 3 million pieces a day in the next few days," an official from CNP said.
"We have been given a target of printing 900 million pieces of the said note during the financial year 2019-20," he added.
Currently, the CNP is printing 17 million pieces of currency notes of various denominations every day, including 8 million pieces of Rs500, 5 million pieces of Rs100 and 3 million pieces of Rs50 denomination notes. Total printing target for CNP Nashik for the current financial year is 6,200 million pieces. Nashik houses one of the four currency note presses in the country. Of these two belong to the RBI that are located in Mysore (Karnataka) and Salboni (West Bengal). The remaining two belong to SPMCIL that are located in Nashik and Dewas (Madhya Pradesh).

The SPMCIL, which prints government currencies and other security documents and manufactures coins, has nine units across the country. This includes two units each in Nashik and Hyderabad and a unit each in Mumbai, Kolkata, Noida, Dewas and Hoshangabad. The CNP and India Security Press (ISP) are located in Nashik.
While CNP Nashik prints currency notes with various denominations, ISP Nashik prints revenue stamps, stamp papers, passports and visas.
