RestoringVision is the largest nonprofit provider of new reading glasses to people living in impoverished communities around the world. One-third of the global population -- 2.5 billion people -- lives with uncorrected vision impairment. About one billion people of these people need near vision correction, and reading glasses can be a simple solution for many of them. Also, of the one billion, over 500 million live in impoverished communities with no access to reading glasses. Uncorrected vision is one of the biggest global health problems today. Together, FGX and RestoringVision are working tirelessly to help fulfill FGX’s overall corporate mission of improving lives by improving sight. Since 2008, FGX has donated more than 11 million pairs of reading glasses to RestoringVision.

“We are thrilled to provide resources and support to RestoringVision and are happy to be a category leader in combatting the lack of access to reading glasses that so deeply impacts developing countries,” said Anthony Di Paola, Chief Executive Officer, FGX International. “We hope that Reading Glasses Day brings much needed attention and awareness to this problem and inspires others to join us in the quest for access to reading glasses for all those in need.”

“At RestoringVision, we serve as the easiest, most efficient source of new, high-quality reading glasses for charitable partners distributing glasses to communities with need around the world,” said Pelin Munis, Executive Director, RestoringVision. “FGX’s longtime partnership and monumental donation has been invaluable, and with their continued help, we hope to inch closer and closer to our ultimate vision - a world where everyone who needs glasses has them.”

Reading Glasses Day is an opportunity to focus attention on this problem and bring individuals, organizations, and communities together to make a difference. From third-world markets where philanthropic efforts make a tremendous impact to emerging markets that provide access to glasses through sustainable consumer driven solutions, the goal of Reading Glasses Day is to inspire action and create momentum solutions.
