Gold worth Rs 7 lakh seized from passenger at Chennai airport

Gold items which were seized from a Sri Lankan woman at Chennai airport on Thursday night.
CHENNAI: Customs officials at Chennai international airport seized gold worth Rs 7 lakh from a Sri Lankan woman on Thursday night.

The officials intercepted Mary Margret, 55, who arrived here from Colombo in an Air India flight. They searched her and found two cylindrical gold ingots of 24K purity, weighing 161 grams and worth Rs 5.5 lakh, concealed in her rectum.
A gold chain, weighing 48 gram and worth Rs 1.5 lakh, was recovered from her hand baggage.
