Instagram takes on TikTok by adding new lyrics feature in Music sticker
  • Instagram is enabling the addition of lyrics to the Music sticker option for users.
  • The feature will enable lyrics to be shown with a Story.

TikTok enabled users to lip sync with popular music and lyrics to create their own videos. It rose to the top after being banned in India and its rival Instagram has been adding new features to gain the upper hand. Now, the Facebook-owned social media platform is introducing new lyrics feature to the already announced Music sticker. As the name suggests, the option will enable users to select lyrics for a song of their choice, if it’s available, and they will be shown with the Story. As mentioned, the feature is available in regions that have the Music sticker, which means it can be accessed by users in France, Germany and the US.

Those who can use the feature will be able to select from different fonts and designs for the lyrics. As noted by TechCrunch, users need to first select the Music lens type before they shoot or use the Music sticker afterwards. After selecting a song, they will be shown the lyrics that can be adjusted to show up at a certain segment of the music being played. As per the report, users will then get to select from various animation styles like a karaoke teleprompter, a typewriter version that reveals lyrics in parts or a billboard font.

Instagram notes in its blog post, “Add a music sticker and search for a song. If lyrics are available for the song you select, you can choose different fonts and designs for them, and you can edit which part of the song you want to play. When someone watches your story, they can tap the lyrics to learn more about the artist or listen to more of the song.” The new Music and lyrics features are yet to be made available in India but we can expect the options to roll out broadly for users soon.
