Did the score reviewers get it wrong again?
The AFL faces another goal scoring review controversy after Richmond's Jack Higgins appeared to be denied a goal during the second quarter of Friday night's match at the MCG.
The Tiger kicked a snap from the boundary line that went close to the goalpost as Geelong players attempted to touch the ball as it crossed the line.
The goal umpire is understood to have called for a review saying "I believe it is a behind. Can we we confirm the ball hit the goalpost?"
Despite vision appearing to show the ball missed the post and cleared the goal line to be a goal, the reviewer made the decision to award a behind.
A goal would have stopped the Cats momentum as they had kicked the first five goals of the second quarter and dragged the margin back to 15 points.
The decision comes just a week after the AFL admitted to two score review blunders in round 11 with Fremantle being awarded a goal that Collingwood's Chris Mayne touched off the boot and West Coast's Oscar Allen being awarded a goal despite Western Bulldogs' midfielder Marcus Bontempelli touching the ball off the boot.
The AFL blamed a breakdown in process for the mistake in the Collingwood game and the score reviewer for the mistake at Optus Stadium.
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said on 3AW on Friday they had to get better with the score review system and he was hopeful a bunker system that is being considered would lead to improvement.
