Monsoon delayed by two more days

Pune: Puneites will have to wait for yet another week to enjoy the monsoon showers. As the monsoon has been delayed by two more days skipping the date of June 6 to hit Kerala coast. Earlier, Indian Meteorological Department had predicted that the monsoon will hit the Kerala coast by June 6 but now it has been delayed by two more days and will set over Kerala by June 8.

“Further it would take over a week to reach the city,” said IMD. Nevertheless, on Thursday the city recorded a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, a four degree less than Wednesday when it 
recorded 40.1 degrees Celsius. 

While talking to Sakal Times, Head of Forecast Division, IMD, Pune, Anupam Kashyapi said, “Monsoon will set over Kerala in next two days. The onset will be weak initially. Monsoon will reach Konkan, Goa and madhya Maharashtra between June 12 and 15 and will set over the entire State by June 18-20. 

Meanwhile, parts of Konkan, Goa, Marathwada received rain along with thundershowers on Thursday. Calling it pre-monsoon rains that occurred to due local convection, he added that a lot of moisture had been incurred from the Arabian Sea which resulted in rains in these parts of the country.
He also said that a low-pressure area was very likely to form over the southeast and adjoining east central Arabian Sea off Kerala-Karnataka coast around June 9 and then onwards it was likely to move north-northwestwards and intensify gradually.

According to IMD, “Conditions will likely to become favourable for the advance of Southwest Monsoon into some parts of Northeastern states during next two-three days.”

Meanwhile, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions very likely to prevail over Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha for next four-five days. And fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Assam and Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during next four-five days.
