Belagavi: Governor
Vajubhai Vala inaugurated the Deendayal Upadhyaya Study
Chair at Rani Channamma University (RCU) here on Thursday. This is the first study chair in the name of the RSS thinker and former Jana Sangh president Deendayal Upadhyaya in south India.
The governor inaugurated the chair in the presence of Atul Jain, principal secretary of Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhi, vice-chancellor Shivanand Hosamani and registrar Siddu Algur at VTU Auditorium at Macche. The central government had sanctioned Rs 5.78 crore for the establishment of the chair in 2018.
Vala recalled his days with Deendayal when he was an RSS pracharak and the latter was a leader in the organisation. “Deendayal believed in simple living and high thinking. He used to travel in third-class railway bogies, sit on a mat and never showed the attitude of a person in a high post,” he said.
Vala said Deendayal must get credit for the concept of interlinking rivers. Deendayal was in favour of small check dams across rivers rather than big ones, he added.
Vala said that interlinking rivers will help resolve water problems in many states and added that the Modi government would implement the water grid concept in the next five years.
Jain said Deendayal was a multifaceted personality who was a philosopher, statesman, organizer, journalist, economist and a leader. “Fifteen 15 volumes of the life of Deendayal have been published after an effort of 10 years. His ideologies suit contemporary situations,” he said.
