As Mercedes-AMG’s second standalone model after the SLS, the GT is a tremendous sports car, particularly in range-topping R guise.
With 585 PS (577 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque produced by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is probably the closest thing to a German muscle car. Few people would feel the need for a faster machine — after all, the GT R goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 318 km/h (198 mph).
Still, the folks from G-Power wanted to extract even more performance from the AMG GT R. The aftermarket specialist offers four different options for increasing the V8’s peak output, culminating in an 800 PS (789 hp) variant that also comes with a maximum torque figure of 850 Nm (627 lb-ft).
The extra oomph is achieved via a combination of the Performance Software V4 and several hardware modifications to the M178 motor. Those include a racing fuel pump, weight-optimized forged pistons with reduced compression, modified turbochargers with larger turbine and compressor wheels, as well as CNC-optimized housings and enhanced compressor turbine blades. The intake system with sports air filters and downpipes with sports catalytic converters are also new.
To cope with the additional 215 PS and 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) of torque, G-Power engineers have also reinforced the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
If a 789 hp output sounds too extreme, G-Power also offers the Performance Software V3 combined with the same hardware modifications for a total of 750 PS (740 hp) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque.
Further down the ladder is the Performance Software V2 which takes the 4.0-liter V8 power plant to 690 PS (681 hp) and 770 Nm (568 lb-ft) of torque in combination with flow optimized downpipes. Finally, the entry-level Performance Software V1 comes with a still satisfactory 650 PS (641 hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque.
Each of the aforementioned power kits can be had with Hurricane RR forged aluminum rims shod with 275/30 ZR20 Michelin tires at the front and 305/25 ZR21 rubber at the rear.
