Mangaluru: The usual
complaints regarding city
buses continued to pour in during the Friday
phone-in programme. Many callers told the police that the buses are
skipping their
last trips of the day.
Hanumantharaya, DCP (law and order), presided over the phone-in-programme. A caller alleged that buses are skipping their last trips of the day to Sulthan Battery. Another caller complained that a lone passenger was made to disembark from the bus mid-way, due to the bus service providers refusal to complete the trip. A caller from Valachil said that private buses are not coming to their area, and that they are skipping many trips. “Private buses plying in our route have stopped their service. There are no buses between Mangaluru and Ambekdarpadav,” complained another caller. A caller from Ganjimatta too complained about this issue.
Parking issue
A caller said that two-wheelers are occupying all the spaces reserved for four-wheelers. He questioned why two-wheelers are allowed in spaces meant for four-wheelers. He asked as to where the owners of four-wheelers should park their vehicles.
Footpath
Many called in to complain about vehicles being parked on footpaths. A caller from Kavoor urged the police to deploy personnel in the junction. Vehicles have been parked illegally at the market place at Bolar, complained another caller.
Issue resolved
In the last phone-in-programme, a caller had complained about the parking row at KMC hospital near Dr BR Ambedkar Circle, where the hospital was not allowing parking for visiting patients. Police said that the issue has been resolved.
‘Autorickshaw drivers fleecing customers at Derlakatte’
A caller said that autorickshaw drivers are fleecing customers at Derlakatte, an area which has a lot of hospitals.
Hanumantharaya instructed police personnel to deploy decoys and conduct an awareness drive among autorickshaw drivers about such issues. He also asked for a fare chart board with police helpline numbers on it, in and around Derlakatte.
Complaints were also received regarding repairing of road humps and replacement of traffic blinkers.
Private buses overspeeding in city: DCP
Hanumantharaya said that Sandeep Patil, city police commissioner, has himself witnessed how private bus drivers drive recklessly inside the city, a place where they are required to drive with caution. He shared the same with Rajavarma Ballal and Dilraj Alva, office-bearers of Private Bus Owners Association. He also asked them to instruct the bus operators to stop over-speeding inside the city, or else action will be taken against drivers.
