CHANDIGARH: A 29-year-old UT police constable allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of DSP (lines) office in Sector 26 on Thursday morning.
Police said Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Kishangarh village, was suffering from depression and under treatment at PGI.
Around 6.30am, Ramesh went to the rooftop of the DSP’s office at Police Lines, where he was posted, and jumped off. Cops present on the spot raised the alarm and took him to PGI. But he succumbed during treatment.
Ruling out any foul play, police said no suicide note was recovered from the spot. “His family’s statements are being recorded. They told that Ramesh had met with an accident a couple of years ago and since then, he was under depression,” a cop added.

Ramesh, who had joined UT police in 2013, was unmarried and lived with his family in a rented accommodation in Kishangarh.
Sector 26 police have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
