Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni’s insignia of the Indian Army on his wicket-keeping gloves has caught the attention of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC). The cricket body objected to Dhoni’s Balidaan Badge of the Indian Special Forces on his keeping gloves, saying it exceeds the number of logos permitted on specific gear. (Read in Bengali)
ICC general manager, Claire Furlong stated that wicketkeeping gloves can only have two manufacturers’ logos, and the presence of a third on Dhoni’s gloves was a breach of conduct. Moreover, symbols denoting “political or religious identity” aren’t permitted as per the ICC rule-book.
Dhoni, however, has got support from his online fans, with many reminding that the 2011 World Cup-winning captain is an honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Indian Territorial Forces, and that Balidaan isn’t a political statement.

#DhoniKeepTheGlove ICC norms delimit not to wear Religious, Racial and Political Logo.
If it is not against the ICC norms then why they are insisting him ?
Dhoni, It’s a matter of National pride.
Dhoni, Keep the BALIDAAN badge.

Balidaan badge is not related to any religion nor it is a political symbol… Lt. Col Ms Dhoni has every right to wear /highlight the badge that he has received.. I don’t see any legitimate reason for ICC to interfere in this matter#DhoniKeepTheGlove

Why do not ICC ask England players not wear crown and 3 lions image on their jersey as it is the sign of english imperialism #DhoniKeepTheGlove ICC should not dictate in things which are not in their domain !! We support Dhoni !!! pic.twitter.com/1lO8vzELHz

What’s wrong with dhoni’s gloves with balidaan badge #DhoniKeepTheGlove
Dear @ICC why ban dhoni’s gloves when it doesn’t have any religious ,
Racist or political symbol. It simply his other job’s badge— Shreyas Barde (@Eiyuu_Ou00) June 7, 2019
Will ICC ask Sheldon Cottrell, a West Indian bowler to stop his military salute he does every time he takes wicket? Or will it ask England team to remove three lions from its apparel as they signify the Royal Army? ICC stand is unfit & illogical. #DhoniKeepTheGlove

Why is the ‘3 Lions’ symbol on England’s jersey allowed @ICC ?? Don’t you guys know it symbolizes the Sacrifice of their Armed forces. If it’s allowed, then Dhoni should be allowed to wear his gloves too. Your Double standards is showing, ICC #DhoniKeepTheGlove @BCCI

If @BCCI scumbs to @ICC & fails to defend one of the best cricketer in India who is just showing his respect for his Army then it will be the worst day in the history of Indian cricket.Even if it comes down to abandoning the world cup @BCCI should defend MSD.#DhoniKeepTheGlove

#DhoniKeepTheGlove We should wait and respect the decision of #MSDhoni related to #BalidaanBadge. May be he was wearing only for one or few matches. In that case, we should leave decision on him alone. Wait, until he decides. Dont press panick button in every thing prematurely.

Dhoni hasn’t commented on his gloves yet.
