Stop manufacturing polythene or get ready to face crackdown, DM tells firms

Kanpur: District administration will launch campaign in the city against use of polythene from June 10. District magistrate, Vijay Vishwas Pant, on Friday appealed to all retailers and wholesalers to stop use of polythene.
The factories manufacturing polythene must stop polythenes production voluntarily else strict action would be taken against them, he warned. At a meeting held here to review works related with garbage disposal, and ban on use of polythene, the DM directed all government offices to stop use of polythene in their departments.
He has asked the people to post photograph of a person found using polythene on Kanpur Municipal Corporation’s face book page so that action could be taken against him. In a specific direction to all zonal officers and city magistrates, the DM has told them to conduct raids in their respective jurisdiction from Monday against persons found using polythene.

“As use of plastic glasses and thermocol plates too have been banned, action will be taken against organisers of functions found using plastic glasses and thermocol plates", he said. The DM has directed the officials of the municipal corporation to play an active role in disposal of garbage.
The garbage should not be dumped in the open under any condition, he said. He has directed the officials to take strict disciplinary action against sanitation workers who remain absent from duty and felicitate those who perform their duty honestly. Arrange biometric attendance of all sanitation officers, he added.
