RANCHI: Within a week of its academic council decision, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (SPMU) has now opened admissions to 18 different new degree and diploma courses at the UG and PG levels at the varsity. For the new courses like rural development, tribal arts and communication, DSPMU will be pooling in faculty from various departments and inviting guest faculties for the job initially, said officials.
The deadline for application for the new courses is June 17 through the university website.
Talking to TOI, SN Munda, vice-chancellor of DSPMU, said, "Most of the courses are under the aegis of the parent departments of anthropology, political science and MCA. We will be engaging faculty members from these departments for teaching students as a large chunk of the syllabus in these courses are similar to the existing courses. This will be the second session for the institution as an independent university. SPMU was known as Ranchi College until two years ago before it was separated from Ranchi University.
SPMU will also be starting classes under the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) - with six different courses from this session. These include a six-month certificate course, a one-year diploma course along with two different bachelor degrees-one in journalism and mass communication and another on film-making.
