The trails hub is set to increase tourism and stimulate the local economy as well as engage communities and strengthen the relationship between active forest users and forest management practices.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Forestry Chris Tallentire MLA said, “As an avid cyclist myself, I’m particularly excited to see the development of a cycling masterplan for the area and can’t wait to explore more of this beautiful region.”
Chris Tallentire announced at an event launching the trails project in Nannup that the McGowan Government has committed $15,000 from the Forests Products Commission (FPC) and $133,000 from Lotterywest.
The funding will go towards the development of a cycling masterplan, and the preparation of documents to sanction cycling trails in the Shire of Nannup.
“Cycling and spending time in natural areas, like Western Australia’s forests and plantations, is a great way to connect with others and improve health and wellbeing,” he said.
The FPC is committed to supporting tourism opportunities in regional areas connected to Western Australia’s vibrant forestry industry to support jobs and regional economies.
