The district police have formed two special teams to nab the accused involved in creating a fake Facebook page in the name of a private hospital and cheating people across the country of their money.
M. Prabhakar, managing director, Kalyani Kidney Care Centre, in his complaint to the police said that one of his doctors in the hospital had on March 1 received phone calls from persons stating that they were willing to donate their kidneys for the offered price of ₹ 3 crore made in the hospital’s Facebook page. Many callers said that they had made a payment of ₹ 15,000, but did not receive any further information. The police blocked two such pages, but failed to arrest the accused. On June 4, the Erode North police registered a case against unknown persons. The phone number given on the FB page was traced to Bengaluru.
