THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala state engineering and pharmacy entrance examination rank lists are likely to be published by June 10.

In order expedite the engineering and pharmacy admissions, the government had been taking steps to publish the KEAM results latest by June 7 this year. However, the commissioner of entrance examination is learned to have told by the government to wait till the announcement of national open school higher secondary examination results, which is expected to be published only on Thursday ( today).

Sources said all procedures have been completed and the office of the commissioner for entrance examination would be able to publish the rank list by June 10, if the open school results are out on June 6 itself. ``Actually there is not much delay in the announcement of national open school result. The fact is that the state government wanted to speed up the whole process towards engineering entrance examination so that classes could start by July 15. The early announcement of CBSE/ICSE results too have helped the commissionarte to speed up the process. But a court order has restricted the government from publishing the rank list before the announcement of the national open school result’’, sources in the government said.

Till last year, the engineering/pharmacy rank lists were published only in the third week of June. Last year the rank list was published only on June 20. As many as 73,000 candidates have appeared for the engineering entrance test and close to one lakh candidates (99.88 lakh) did appear for the engineering and pharmacy entrance tests together this year. There was substantial dip in the number of candidates who took the entrance examination for engineering courses in the current year. It's the first time that the number of candidates appeared for the entrance (engineering & pharmacy courses together) has come down below one lakh. In 2018, over 90,000 candidates appeared for the engineering papers alone, sources in the office of commissioner for entrance examinations said.
