Introductory price across variants starts at ₹7.22 lakh

Japanese car maker Toyota on Thursday forayed into premium hatchback segment with the launch of Glanza, which is based on Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno, at an introductory price range between ₹7.22 lakh and ₹8.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Glanza is the first product to be launched as a result of partnership between the two Japanese giants — Suzuki and Toyota — to share models and manufacturing capacity in the Indian market.

Targeted at millennials, Glanza comes with BS-VI- compliant 1.2 litre petrol engine with automatic transmission and smart hybrid option. The main challenge for Glanza would be from the Baleno, available at starting price of ₹5.58 lakh.Currently, Baleno is available in both petrol and diesel variants.

“In a dynamic market like India, it will be our constant endeavour to offer a range of options to our customers,” Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) managing director Masakazu Yoshimura said. Toyota is present in India through a partnership with Kirloskar group.

The company’s deputy managing director N. Raja added that Toyota intended to differentiate the Glanza from Maruti Suzuki's Baleno via customer experience, particularly after-sales service.

The company is also offering warranty of 3 years/1 lakh kilometres that can be extended up to 5 years/2.2 lakh km.
