In its attempt to improve green cover in the district, the Salem district administration is targeting to plant two lakh saplings within next five months.
Launching the programme, District Collector Rohini R. Bhajibhakare said, “as part of our World Environment Day celebrations, we have launched Én Maram, En Varam (My tree is my boon) programme through which we are aiming to plant two lakh trees in the district by October 15, the birth anniversary of former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.” Earlier, the Forest department organised a cycle rally here and district collector Rohini.R.Bhajibhakare flagged off the rally at Forest range office at Hasthampatti.

In Namakkal, District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) along with a few other organisations conducted tree plantation activities here and planted 400 saplings.
Superintendent of Police Ara. Arularasu inaugurated tree plantation activities at Armed Reserve police grounds here. It was organised jointly with Isha Green Hands.
