Residents of villages in Bhimpur block of Betul district in Madhya Pradesh faced acute shortage of water. The situation has worsened as the region has received scanty rainfall so far. The locals need to travel 2-3 km everyday to fetch water. According to villagers, there is no proper water arrangement by the government. A villager said, “We have to get up at 4 am to get water, we either travel for kilometers to get water or we purchase it. No official pays attention to our problems”. While speaking to ANI, another villager narrated, “We have to get up at 4 am to get water. This hampers our studies. There’s no electricity in the village”. “This is not a new problem. We have no other option but to consume contaminated water”, said a local.
