Namma Metro services on the Purple Line were disrupted on Wednesday from 11.30 a.m. to 12.10 p.m. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials said services were suspended between Baiyappanahalli and Indiranagar for urgent maintenance work on the third rail traction power at S.V. Road Metro station.
The BMRCL’s decision to carry out maintenance work without prior notice angered passengers as they were informed about it only after reaching Baiyappanahalli and S.V. Road metro stations. Details were shared on social media 10 minutes before work began, alleged commuters.
“Shutting down the Metro for maintenance without any prior information is an inconvenience for daily passengers. A 40-minute delay here will cost us more than one and a half hours. Why can’t officials plan and inform passengers in advance,” questioned a passenger at Baiyappanahalli station.
Another commuter said, “If the public is notified we can make alternate arrangements or plan accordingly. Waiting here for around 40 minutes is a pain,” he said.
Yashwant Chavan, PRO, BMRCL, said “The train services were stopped between the stations to fix some power supply snags in the third rail system. Services were suspended for 30 minutes, but were operational from Indiranagar to Mysuru Road stations.”
On Sunday, too, services on the Purple Line were disrupted between Indiranagar and Baiyappanahalli for more than 30 minutes after tripping of power at Baiyappanahalli metro station.
