BJP core committee takes stock of Lok Sabha election debacle in Tamil Nadu

The meeting was chaired by national general secretary Muralidhar Rao.
CHENNAI: The core committee of BJP’s Tamil Nadu state unit held a meeting at the party’s headquarters here on Thursday to introspect the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections and the party’s stand and prospects in the forthcoming local bodies elections.
Sources in the party said that the meeting had been chaired by national general secretary Muralidhar Rao.
Party election co-incharge for the state C T Ravi, BJP state chief Tamilisai Soundararajan, former minister Pon Radhakrishnan, national secretary H Raja, senior leaders Vanathi Srinivasan, G S Narendran, Kesava Vinayagam and a few others participated in the meeting that started at 10.30am and ended at 1.30pm.
Rao took stock of the party’s performance and the future course of action to strengthen its base. The leaders also discussed various factors that resulted in the drubbing of all the five party candidates fielded in Tuticorin, Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore and Sivaganga constituencies.

Most of the leaders echoed that the DMK-Congress alliance’s sustained anti-Modi campaign had undone the AIADMK-BJP alliance in the state. Except for Theni constituency, where deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam's son Ravindranath Kumar won the seat, the AIADMK-BJP alliance lost all 37 constituencies (excluding Vellore where elections were not held) with a huge margin.
The BJP candidates have also lost with a margin of 1.50 lakh to 3 lakh votes. The leaders also discussed it and chalked out the future course of action.
