VW Has Locked In 20,000 Pre-Orders For Its ID.3 Electric Hatchback

Volkswagen brand board member for sales and marketing, Jurgen Stackmann, has confirmed that the German car manufacturer has exceeded 20,000 pre-bookings for their upcoming ID.3.

The company revealed the all-electric hatchback under a thin veil of camouflage a month ago and opened pre-order books at the same time. It took just 24 hours for more than 10,000 reservations to be made, and since then they have doubled.

Stackmann took to Twitter to say that 20,000 pre-bookings have been secured and that the company wants to have 30,000 bookings secured by the time the Frankfurt Auto Show, where the ID.3 will be officially launched, opens its doors.

The ID.3 will be sold in three configurations. The entry-level model features a 45 kWh battery and offer 205 miles (330 km) of range. Sitting in the middle of the range is the 58 kWh version with a WLTP range of 261 miles (420 km), while the range-topper comes with a 77 kWh battery pack and can drive for 342 miles (550 km) on a single charge.

Volkswagen is initially building the car in ID.3 1ST guise and will cap production to 30,000 units. This model, which is also the only currently available to pre-order, comes with the mid-range battery pack, is offered in four different colors, three trim levels, and includes larger wheels, voice control and a navigation system.

Production will kick off later this year, with the first custom deliveries scheduled for mid-2020.
