Five arrested for abducting a couple

Rajkot: Five men were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping a woman and her husband from Anandnagar bus stand in Bhavnagar. Manish Agrawat, Alpesh Agrawat, Alpesh Chandu Agrawat, Suman Agrawat and Chetan Agrawat are cousins of Nirali Agrawat, who had married a Muslim youth, Shahrukh Qureshi, going against their wishes.
The accused waylaid the husband-wife duo while they were going on their two-wheeler. They rammed their car into the two-wheeler and when the couple fell down on the road, started beating them up. They then abducted them in their car at knife point.
“A passerby who was a witness to the crime called up Bhavnagar police control room which alerted us. We cordoned off various roads leading to Bhavnagar and eventually, the couple and the accused were nabbed from Rajkot-Bhavnagar Highway near Dhasa village,” said an official from Ghogha Road police station.
Nirali, a resident of Bagasara, had eloped with Shahrukh and married him 22 days ago. The couple was living in the house of Shahrukh’s aunt in Anandnagar. Nirali’s cousins, who were in search of her, came to know about her whereabouts and decided to kidnap her and Shahrukh, cops added.
