PALANPUR: Preliminary questioning of Ahmedabad-based doctor Kinnari Patel, who was arrested for killing her 32-year-old brother and his 14-month-old daughter, suggests that the brutal crime was a fall-out of pent up frustration caused by inferiority complex that had built up over several years.
On Wednesday, Patan police arrested Dr Kinnari after her parents approached the police with a video of her confession that she had poisoned her brother Jigar and his daughter Mahi in a span of 25 days last month.
Even as investigators are struggling to establish the motive behind the cold-blooded killings, they were stunned when Dr Kinnari told them that she deliberately slow poisoned her brother so that she could see him die in front of her eyes.
“She told us that ever since childhood, her parents gave more importance and affection to Jigar. If she spilled a glass of water, her parents would scold her, but if Jigar did the same thing, he was let off without reprimand. Over the years, she developed inferiority complex and started feeling insignificant at home,” RG Chaudhary, in-charge police inspector, B-division police station told TOI.
Kinnari then decided to prove her capability by joining Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) in
Udaipur. “She told us that even as she earned the doctor degree, it hardly mattered to her parents who continued to give special attention to Jigar and his newborn daughter.”
Ultimately, Kinnari started searching on the internet about ways of slow death. “During questioning, she claimed that she deliberately chose the method of slow death. This was not out of the fear of getting caught, but because she wanted to see Jigar die in front of her eyes,” added Chaudhary.
On the pretext of advising him to remain adequately hydrated, Kinnari started mixing
datura seeds extract with glucose in his water bottle. “Around six months ago, Jigar started have seizures and deliriums. She even regaled seeing his insane behaviour. Ultimately when Jigar suddenly collapsed at their Patan house on May 5, she stealthily gave him
poison which resulted in his death,” the official said.
Chaudhary said her parents and other relatives had found her behaviour suspicious as she did not show any sorrow despite the twin deaths.
Notably, her father Narendra Patel, a metal trader in Ahmedabad, has also stated in his complaint that Kinnari was gleefully smiling when 14-month-old Mahi was being rushed to the hospital on May 30. Kinnari had poisoned the baby girl in the cradle that day after giving poison to Jigar’s wife Bhumi, who managed to survive.
On tactful qu estioning by them, she broke down and confessed to the crime. Her father recorded the video of her confession and approached the police on Tuesday night.
Kinnari, who has been booked for murder, was sent to seven days police custody on Thursday.
