SOG nabs mother-son duo in fake note racket

Vadodara: The special operations group (SOG) busted a fake currency note racket and arrested two persons on Thursday. The police said that a mother-son duo had been circulating counterfeit notes in the city over the last few days. The SOG sleuths received a tip-off about the accused following which, they nabbed the duo.
The accused, identified as Sayrabano Memon and her son Mohammed Memon, are residents of Panigate area. “On Wednesday, a roadside vendor in Tandalja area caught a youngster who was trying to pay him with fake note of Rs 100 denomination. The vendor called the cops who reached the spot and took the youngster in their custody,” said H M Chauhan, SOG police inspector.

The youngster revealed to the police that he had got the note from his mother, Sayrabano and brother Mohammed who had come to Tandalja for shopping. The cops tracked down the duo to their home and arrested them. “We found a colour printer, four counterfeit currency notes and mobile phones from their home,” Chauhan added. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to take colour printouts of the currency notes and circulate them at the markets in Tandalja that had been witnessing rush due to Eid celebrations.
The police said that it is trying to ascertain how many such notes had been printed by the accused and also circulated in the market. An offence has been registered against them in the Panigate police station.
