Ghaziabad: A 52-year-old businessman from Ghaziabad allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his revolver inside his house at Dharampura near Kotwali on Wednesday. Police have recovered a suicide note from his mobile phone that allegedly said he took the step after being mentally harassed by two of his elder brothers over a property dispute.
The deceased has been identified as Naveen Jain. He ran a plastic disposal factory in Kotwali area for around 20 years. Naveen was the treasurer of BJP’s Kisan Morcha at Ghaziabad and has a 22-year-old son, who is a BBA student at Delhi University.
Naveen allegedly stated in his suicide note that his brothers, Pawan and Pankaj, had been threatening to kill his son if he approached the police. Naveen wrote the note and took a picture of it with his mobile phone.
Shlok Kumar, superintendent of police (city), Ghaziabad, told TOI that after the death of Naveen’s father in 2006, he started staying separately. He wanted their property to be distributed among all three brother.
“Naveen shot himself in the head in front of his mother and a brother. Naveen’s mother informed his wife and son,” he added. “The incident took place round noon on Wednesday when Naveen went to his mother’s home to sort out the dispute. An altercation followed and Naveen pulled out his licensed revolver and shot himself. He died on the spot,” said Kumar.
“Prima facie, it appears that a property dispute was the reason behind the incident. We have got a complaint from Naveen’s son. An FIR against Pawan and Pankaj, under Section of 306 (abetment of suicide), of IPC has been lodged,” Kumar said.
