Ghaziabad: Policemen posted at Sahibabad police station came forward to provide financial support to one of their colleague diagnosed with blood cancer. They collected Rs 2.3 lakh and on Tuesday, handed over a cheque to the relatives of constable Mansoor Ahmed (31) who is deputed at Tulsi Niketan police post.
Mansoor, a resident of Umri Kalan in Moradabad, had joined UP Police in 2006 and has been posted in Ghaziabad for the past few years. While on duty, he met with an accident in December 2018 and suffered severe injuries to his jaw. He lost several teeth and after treatment, joined the office almost after a month.
“The trouble started soon after. Mansoor never recovered from the accident and kept falling ill. However, it was only around a month ago that he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. He saw a doctor in Basti where he had gone on Lok Sabha Elections duty. He had vomited blood a night before that,” said Masroor, Mansoor’s younger brother.
Mansoor has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital since May 24 and doctors have given an estimate of Rs 20-22 lakh for his treatment. Eldest among seven siblings, he got married three years back and has two daughters, aged two years and four months. Mansoor is the only earning member of the family. His father Mashkoor Ahmed owns around 10 bighas of farmland in Moradabad.
“We have already spent around Rs 5 lakh on his treatment. We are grateful to his department that came forward and offered us the much-needed help, he added.
SHO (Sahibabad) Jitendra Kumar Singh said: “Everyone who works here is part of our extended family and it is our duty to help them in their hour of need. Mansoor is a young man and quite sincere about his duty.”
Around 200 personnel deputed under Sahibabad police station made a contribution, ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 50,000, and handed over a cheque to Mansoor’s father Mashkoor Ahmed and his brother Masroor on Tuesday. The policemen have promised to provide help to the family in future as well.
