They sought to stop export of waste cotton, besides urging the government to encourage export of textile goods. They also sought the government to enforce plastic ban strictly as it would boost the use of cotton bags, which may in-turn revive the textile sector. There are more than 100 units involved in textile manufacturing in Tirupur and Palladam region. The halt in production has rendered over one lakh labourers jobless and loss in business to the tune of Rs 10 crore. The manufacturing units also appealed both State and Central governments to find a solution to their problem.
The manufacturers claimed that increase in prices of yarn and declining orders from north Indian states has led to declining business in the textile sector.
