Three run over by trains at unmanned crossings

Ludhiana: Three people died after being run over by trains at unmanned crossings in city on Wednesday morning.
In the first case, a super-fast train hit Lakshman, 55, a resident of Pakhowal Road, while he was crossing the tracks in Baddowal.
Government Railway Police assistant sub-inspector Jiwan Singh said, “A gateman informed the GRP control room about the incident around 5am. Documents found on the body helped establish its identity. Lakshman, a native of Bihar, worked as a rickshaw puller. It was found during preliminary investigation that he was drunk at the time. The body has been sent for post-mortem.”
In the second case, a youth committed suicide by jumping before a passenger train at Giaspur railway crossing around 6am.
GRP, Ludhiana, in-charge Balbir Singh said, “We are yet to establish his identity. It seems he was in his early twenties.”

Four hours later, another body was found at Doraha railway crossing. A middle-aged man came under a train while crossing the tracks around 10am.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
