AGRA: Aligarh police may slap the National Security Act (NSA) against two men arrested for allegedly killing a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in
Aligarh’s Tappal area over repayment of a Rs 10,000 loan the accused had taken from the victim’s father.
The girl’s mutilated body was found in a garbage pile on Sunday after a pack of stray dogs had been spotted carrying what appeared to be human body parts.
Senior superintendent of police Akash Kulhari said both the accused – Jahed Ali (27) and his neighbour Aslam (42) – have been sent to judicial custody on June 4. "Since the matter is of people’s security, NSA may also be imposed on them," he said.
Kulhari said that during interrogation, Jahed Ali told police that he along with Aslam allegedly strangled the girl, Twinkle Sharma, to death using her dupatta. The accused also revealed that he had earlier put the girl's body in a sack of fodder inside their house but threw it in a garbage pile later when it started decomposing.
According to Twinkle’s family members, Jahed had threatened them with dire consequences a few days before the girl’s murder, as the deceased’s father, Banwari Lal Sharma, asked the suspect to repay the loan.
Twinkle’s grandfather Kanhaiya Sharma told TOI that the child was playing outside her home on May 30 before she suddenly disappeared. "We all started searching for her and when we failed to locate, we lodged a police complaint," he said.
A case had been registered against Jahed under section 363 (kidnapping) on May 31. Section 302 (murder) was added to it after the girl’s body was found.
The girl’s father works as a labourer while her mother is a homemaker. The girl's family members alleged she could have been saved if police had acted on her complaint on time.
Acting on the family’s accusations, the SSP sent the SHO of Tappal police station, KP Singh, to Police Lines for dereliction of duty.
The girl’s gruesome murder was trending on Twitter throughout Thursday and remained one of the most discussed topics on social media.
