Here's who Salman Khan thinks is the real superstar of the 90s

Salman Khan thinks while the 90s saw the rise of Shah Rukh Khan and Sachin Tendulkar as superstars, the real star of the era was Manmohan Singh.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was perhaps the biggest star in the 90s when the three Khans were raging in Hindi film industry. But who according to him is the biggest superstar of the era?

Salman Khan told IndiaToday.in in an interview that 90s saw the rise of two of the biggest superstars his contemporary Shah Rukh Khan and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. However, the biggest of all stars was the then Finance Minister Manmohan Singh, who freed the Indian economy in a bold move that liberated the country like never before.

Manmohan Singh was appointed the finance minister in 1991 in the Narsimha Rao government. The ace economist was handed the job when the Indian economy was in deep crisis. Manmohan Singh managed to open up the markets, which is better known as India’s economic liberalisation.

The budget announced by Manmohan Singh for the year 1991-92 remains one of the most reformative budgets the country has ever witnessed. Manmohan Singh presented the budget on July 24, 1991, and announced some tough measures to free up fiscal space, the first step to liberalising India’s economy.

Remembering his contributions, Salman Khan said, 90s saw the rise of two superstars - Shah Rukh Khan and Sachin Tendulkar. But the actual superstar was our Finance Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Before being appointed the finance minister, Manmohan Singh donned many hats. He was the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, the Chief Economic Adviser and also the deputy chief of the Planning Commission.

Manmohan Singh later went on to become the Prime Minister of the country in two consecutive UPA governments led by Congress.
