A total of 123 drinking water connections were provided to residents of Gomespalayam in Zone 1 of the Corporation on Wednesday.
Madurai (Central) MLA P.T.R. Palanivel Thiagarajan, who assessed the need of the residents of the area, said they had petitioned Corporation authorities on several occasions seeking water connections.
Since Gomespalayam was part of the added areas of the Corporation, it still did not have proper water connections.
The MLA and his team collected ₹100 from each resident and helped in establishing the water connections.
Mr. Thiagarajan also inaugurated 11 paver block roads in the area, laid at a total cost of ₹ 15 lakh. “Since we were digging up the roads, we thought it might also be easy to lay water connections here,” he said.
Later, he inaugurated a borewell and three water tanks, worth ₹ 9.5 lakh, in Vasanthanagar and Andalpuram, both falling under Zone 4 of the Corporation.
