Current Corvette And Camaro V8 To Soon Be Killed Off In Europe Over Emission Regulations

The C7 Corvette and Chevrolet Camaro will only be available new in the European Union and the United Kingdom until August 31, 2019, it has been revealed.

Motoring Research states that new emissions regulations going into effect on September 1, 2019 means the 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated LT1 V8 engines powering the C7 Corvette and Camaro will no longer comply. Enthusiasts will of course still be able to buy these cars through the used car market but they won’t find them new.

The final models in the UK will be sold through Ian Allan Motors in Virginia Water.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer the last opportunity to own a piece of history in Corvette and Camaro. Both models offer incredible value compared to many mid-market and commonplace sports cars, yet carry Chevrolet’s legendary 6.2-litre V8 block, which is arguably one of the world’s most successful performance engines,” chairman of Ian Allan Motors, Paul Allan said.

The C7-generation Corvette will soon be replaced with the all-new mid-engine C8 ‘Vette. The new model will bring with it a host of new engines but the entry-level model will still likely be sold with the LT1, albeit modified to increase performance and likely to comply with emissions regulations.

Chevrolet hasn’t yet stated if the C8 Corvette will be limited to the North American market. However, if the car manufacturer really wants to offer an alternative to the many mid-engine European supercars on the market, we think it’d be wise to sell the car to markets around the world, much like the current Ford Mustang.
