The Telangana High Court on Wednesday posted hearing of the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) over suicides of Intermediate students to Monday, directing the petitioner’s counsel to file reply to the counter filed by the government.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Shameem Akther passed the direction after hearing the arguments of the government and the petitioner.
P. Achyutha Rao of the Balala Hakkula Sangham filed the PIL, seeking direction to the government for re-evaluation of answer sheets of all failed Intermediate students in Telangana.
Presenting the counter of the government over the PIL, Special Government Pleader Sanjeev Kumar said the Intermediate Board had already uploaded answer scripts of failed students. Disputing the claim, petitioner’s counsel C. Damoder Reddy said students were still having difficulty in downloading their answer scripts and mark sheets.
He appealed to the bench to direct the government to upload answer scripts of the 26 Intermediate students who had ended their lives allegedly due to the goof-up of the Intermediate Board officials.
The SGP replied that re-evaluation of answer sheets of 20 students (who ended their lives) revealed that they could not secure pass marks even after re-evaluation.
The SGP told the bench that uploading of the answer scripts of students had been completed by the Intermediate Board by May 27. Over 3 lakh students had already downloaded the answer scripts, he told the bench.
