Adivasis oppose renewal of contract of Lambadas

The contracts of all existing Contract Residential Teachers in the schools run by Tribal Welfare Department will be renewed as per the instructions given by the Tribal Welfare Commissionerate, according to Project Officer of Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) S. Krishna Aditya.

He told this to The Hindu after a meeting which the District Collector, who is also Chairperson of the ITDA, held with some CRTs who are demanding renewals and representatives Adivasi Nirudyogula Sangham (ANS) on Thursday. “Of the total of over 1,100 teachers in the Ashram and primary schools in erstwhile Adilabad district run by the TW Department, 500 are working in schools located in the Agency and 600 in schools located in plains area. Of these, 500 are Lambada teachers and 450 are Adivasis,” Mr. Aditya revealed.

“We demanded that the ITDA insist upon the existing CRTs to produce latest Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) qualification and Local Scheduled Tribe Certificate for being eligible for renewal,” disclosed ANS president Madavi Kartik Dattu. “Our organisation will take the legal route in case the renewal is done for ‘ineligible’ incumbents,” he added.
