Ludhiana: With increase in temperature, civil surgeon Dr Parvinderpal Singh Sidhu has advised residents to take precautionary measures to save themselves from loo. Issuing a statement on Tuesday, he said if residents do not take precautionary measures, they might fall sick. He stated that residents would also have to keep a close tab on the climatic conditions in the coming days from radio, TV, newspapers, and other sources of information.
Sidhu also said: “In summers, even if one is not thirsty, one should drink a lot of water and prefer wearing khadi clothes.” He said that to protect oneself from extreme heat, one should wear sunglasses, use an umbrella, hat, shoes etc, and carry water with them while going outside. If one has to go out for work, our body should be properly covered, and use of lassi, nimbu pani, and buttermilk should be increased. If one feels fatigued, or has a headache, sweating, nausea, etc, one should contact a doctor immediately.”
He also added: “Even animals should be kept safe in this weather, and that is why, they should be kept under shade and be made to drink lots of water. In order to keep our houses cool, curtains should be used. Besides, windows should be opened at night time.”
He said: “We should protect ourselves from loo by taking bath more than once a day. Employers should keep cold drinking water at workplaces, and not let anyone face direct sunlight. Heavy labour work should be done during the cooler time of the day, and there should be an increase in the duration of rest. Besides, pregnant women should keep special care in this weather.”
