NEW BEDFORD — Three people are charged in connection with an incident where a woman was held against her will, assaulted and robbed her because the suspects apparently believed she was a police informant, court records say.

Ari Rason, 41, and Kayla M. Rason, 26, both of 828 Robeson St., Fall River, are being held at the Bristol County House of Correction, Dartmouth, for dangerousness hearings on June 11 in New Bedford District Court, according to court documents.

A third suspect, Tanya J. Piccininni, 34, of 28 Tallman St., Apartment 2, New Bedford, remains at large and police have a warrant for her arrest, court records indicate.

Ari Rason, Kayla Rason and Piccininni are all charged with kidnapping, witness intimidation and unarmed robbery, court records say. Kayla and Piccininni are also charged with assault and battery.

New Bedford police found the victim, a 37-year-old Middleboro woman, on the County Street side of Clasky Common Park about 5:30 a.m. on May 29, bleeding from the face, according to court documents. Paramedics treated her, but she declined medical treatment at St. Luke's Hospital.

The victim told police she was walking north on County Street when she was approached by the suspects in a grey sedan, court records say. They grabbed her and dragged her into the car and locked the doors.

Kayla Rason and Piccininni assaulted her and stole her purse, containing a cellphone, earrings and other items, court records say. No weapons were used in the assault. They left her at Clasky Common Park and she flagged down motorists for help.

The suspects called the victim "a rat" as they assaulted her and said her comments to police was the reason they were raided, court records say.

Ari Rason was present during the beating and told the two women to assault her, but did not participate, court records say. He was involved in the kidnapping, court papers say.

The New Bedford Police Department's narcotics unit, Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau, conducted a raid at 303 Ashley Blvd. the night before the attack on May 28, that involved the suspects, court records indicate.

The victim said she spoke with an undercover police officer about the raid, but did not provide any information and is not an informant for New Bedford police, according to court documents.

New Bedford Police Chief Joseph C. Cordeiro could not be reached for comment Wednesday about the case.
