The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) celebrated World Environment Day on its campus here on Tuesday.
H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, flagged off an awareness rally by the students of the Academy of General Education and Dr. T.M.A. Pai Foundation from the university building. That was followed by planting of saplings at the College of Nursing here.
Hundreds of students took part in the day’s programmes, which were designed to help them understand the importance of a good clean environment.
A student of one of the institutions is picked to speak on the occasion every year and this year, Sanjana, a student of class 9 from T.A. Pai English Medium School, delivered the message. “Today, the air we breathe, water we drink, soil we grow, and crops are all adversely affected by various types of pollution. And we are responsible for polluting everything necessary for us,” she said.
“Man has been exploiting the Earth and natural resources within it for greedy needs. So we are left with global warming, lesser amount of rains and climatic conditions that are not conducive to our lives,” she added.
