MUMBAI: A youth, arrested by the Juhu police in a burglary case, has been found to be active on the mobile video app
TikTok.
Abhimanyu Gupta alias Rinku is a resident of Bail Bazaar in Kurla. Police said he has been booked earlier in four to five cases of burglaries, car thefts etc., in Mumbai and Thane.
In January 2018, an apartment was broken into at Road number 10 in Juhu at night. A senior citizen couple that lived in the apartment had gone out of town. The police examined CCTV footage from the building and from establishments outside. They found some images of the burglar. On receiving a tip-off of his whereabouts, they took him into custody on May 28. He was later identified as Gupta. A magistrate court sent him to judicial custody on Wednesday.
"We were on the lookout for Gupta for a long time and have recovered 150 gms of gold from him," said senior inspector Pandharinath Wavhal. Sources in the Juhu police station said Gupta had amassed a large number of followers on TikTok and used to upload musical videos on the app regularly.
