Nagpur: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Vanarai Foundation organized an environmental discussion at Shrimant Baburao Dhanwate Sabhagruh, on Wednesday. The discussion mainly was focused on the contribution of the
media and NGOs of the city in saving the environment.
Ajay Patil, an associate of Vanarai Foundation, anchored the event. He gave a kick-start to the show by sharing his views and ideas on the contribution of media.
He said, “Media is one of the strong mediums in this generation. There are certain media houses whose single article or report evokes a huge response and the impact helps to tackle the issue and find a solution.
“With the help of the media and NGOs, people are becoming more aware about burning issues. Environment is one such topic which needs to be taken up seriously and with the help of the media, there is a change visible in the society. People are also uniting and taking up causes and issues that are affecting their day to day lives.”
Anasuya Kale Chhabrani said, “Beat air pollution, the theme for the evening has my full support. It’s very important for everyone to stand as one and find solutions to environmental issues. All the stakeholders must have some knowledgeable about the environmental degradation that’s taking place at an alarming pace. Newspapers and news channels play a very important role in shaping the minds of readers and viewers. Putting out facts in the public domain and creating awareness is the responsibility of the media and it is doing a fairly good job.”
Pradeep Maitra said, “Conservation of the environment is a very important issue and the media’s work is praiseworthy. NGOs, too, are doing a good job by creating awareness about various issues. A positive change is being seen across the length and breadth of the country with a lot of saplings being planted in non-green zones.
Girish Gandhi said, “Journalists and law contribute a lot in spreading awareness about the environment. Apart from the media, NGOs also play an important role in bringing about a change. Due to the awareness, people, too, are becoming conscious about the green cover in their cities.”
Nilesh Khandekar, proposed a vote of thanks.
