The Crime Branch moved the Bombay High Court on Tuesday seeking custody of all three accused of abetting the suicide of Dr. Payal Tadvi. Additional public prosecutor Aruna Kamat Pai appeared before a Single Bench of S.S. Shinde seeking custody of Hema Ahuja, Bhakti Mehare and Ankita Khandelwal, all third-year resident doctors in judicial custody.

The case was transferred to the Crime Branch from Agripada police station on May 30. The next day, the case was heard before the city civil and sessions court and the accused were remanded in judicial custody. The Crime Branch then did not get the opportunity to conduct their own probe, an officer said. The court will hear the matter on June 6.

Meanwhile, the Crime Branch has sought time to file their replies to the bail pleas filed by the accused before the sessions court on June 3. The bail applications point out that any allegation of harassment would not lead to suicide or abetment of suicide. It will be heard on June 10, the day the judicial custody of the accused ends.
