A tornado has ripped through New Zealand's North Island on Wednesday tearing roofs from houses and causing chaos on the roads.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand confirmed at least 20 homes had been damaged, with two being declared uninhabitable by a Far North District Council building inspector.
Families were forced to make temporary living arrangements and security guards were posted at their homes until they could be made secure.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand confirmed at least 15 homes had been damaged

The occupants of these properties are packing up to stay with friends and security guards are being posted at the houses until they can be made secure
At least two people were injured during the tornado and Civil Defence officials are going door to door to check that residents are uninjured.
Civil Defence teams, police and fire crews were on the scene at one of the towns worst hit - Coopers Beach on Doubtless Bay north of Auckland.
An Urban Search and Rescue team was en route from Auckland as of Wednesday morning.
One Auckland resident posted photographs online showing the damage to their house.
The picture shows the a destroyed fence and part of the roof strewn across the backyard.

Another 'mini tornado' also hit the community of Kaiwaka, about 100km north of Auckland.
'I just saw this big tree go across the road in front of me. It was literally a flying tree that landed in the middle of the road,' truck driver Craig told the NZ Herald.
Air New Zealand is warning travellers to check flights to and from the North Island in case of delays due to the wild weather.
Auckland Transport also warned that disruptions to public transport, particularly ferry services, may cause delays for commuters.
Weather forecasts indicate more thunderstorms could roll through in the region in the next few days bringing with it wind gusts of up to 110km/h and heavy rain.
