SNDT University, Juhu Road
MUMBAI: A path on the campus of SNDT University, Juhu Road, is set to be opened to motorists from next week onwards. This is perhaps the first time that such access to the public is being granted by an educational institution in the city. The shortcut will save motorists 5km.
MLA Ameet Satam had requested university authorities to give access to the public, inconvenienced after a bridge on Juhu Tara Road was declared dangerous and closed.
Satam told TOI on Tuesday that conditional permission has been given by the university following his June 3 letter to its VC. Massive traffic jams occur on Juhu Tara Road since the BMC shut the bridge, which runs over a nullah near the university. This bridge was among 29 declared dangerous after a reaudit in the wake of the Himalaya FOB crash.

Assistant municipal commissioner (K west ward) Prashant Gaikwad said the road in question on the SNDT campus starts on Juhu Tara Road and comes out near Raheja College. The university’s conditions include placing cameras along the route, maintenance of the road by the BMC till its public use, and cleanliness.
Local corporator Aneesh Makwaaney said the SNDT move would ease traffic on SV Road as well.
