There are no barricades, signboards or caution tapes to warn road users

After a spell of rain on Tuesday evening, vehicle users were caught unawares by the craters on a stretch of Lake View Road in KK Nagar, an arterial road that connects Anna Nagar with Mattuthavani.

A. Sankaranarayanan, a resident of Lake View Gardens area, said he found it difficult to negotiate the slushy stretch and he skidded while riding his scooter. Though the road has not been relaid properly, the Corporation has not placed any barricades, signboards or caution tapes to warn road users about the dangerous stretch.

Ever since this road was dug up for civic work, there were many accidents. On May 18, a lorry carrying a huge load of sugar bags got stuck in the mud, paralysing traffic for many hours.

Mr. Sankaranarayanan said the apathy of the Corporation was evident “as they have not taken any step to repair a vital road. “With this area populated by big hospitals, ambulances find it a hassle to cross this stretch,” he said.

An autorickshaw driver, M. Karthi, said several accidents, though non fatal, had occurred on Lake View Road because of the poor condition.

“More accidents will continue to take place if the Corporation does not act fast. People will not be able to see the poor condition of the road at night,” he said.

An official from the Corporation’s Engineering department said that after the incident on May 18, they did some patch up work. “But the place has become slushy. We will set right the problem spots,” he said.
