Pune: Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) announced the results for Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) on Tuesday.
This year, for the first time, DTE has declared the percentile instead of the ranks or marks which have left the parents confused. Moreover, the website too had crashed, which made it difficult for the children to check their scores.

MHT CET was conducted across the state for admission to the degree courses of engineering, pharmaceutical, and agriculture in May. A total of 3,92,354 students had appeared for the examination this year.

“I think that the government was trying to copy the method of JEE Mains, where percentile is declared. But they also declare the ranks that the government and DTE have failed to do that. The parents and students are confused as to whether they are getting admissions or not,” Durgesh Mangeshkar of IIT Prashikshan Kendra said.

Atharva Chandak from Pune who scored 99.97 percentile (PCM) wishes to pursue robotics and wants to now take admission for computer engineering at IIT.

Chandak said, “I am looking forward to my JEE score. Along with studying, I also took adequate breaks. I maintained a fixed
timetable.”

Chandak completed his class X from Army Public School, Ahmednagar and scored 96% and completed his class XII and completed his class XII from Ashok Vidyalaya and Junior College and scored 94% in science faculty.

Interestingly, few of the top scorers of the examination were however, awaiting the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical courses more eagerly.

Speaking to Sakal Times, the top scoring candidate in the state Vinayak Godbole from Pandharpur said, “I am very happy with the result, but I am now waiting for my NEET score. Medical education is my passion.”

Godbole has scored 99.99 percentile marks in Physics-Chemistry-Mathematics (PCM) group, while he scored 100 percentile in Physics-Chemistry-Biology (PCB) group.

Sanskriti Chude of Modern College, one of the top scorers in Pune who has scored 99.96 percentile in the PCB group, scored 99.82 in PCM group.

She, too, wants to pursue further studies in the medical courses, and is waiting for NEET results.

How can engineering candidates find out rank?
“There is a simple formula to convert percentile to rank. For the Engineering CET, every percentile point means 2,800 rank. For example, if you have 90 percentile, then your rank would be approximately 28,000. And if you have 99.65 percentile, then you are within the top 1,000 ranks. A candidate’s percentile score means the number of candidates that are behind/below him or her in the score,” Mangeshkar added.
