Child sex offender who 'tried to lure girl, 7, in to an abandoned house before undressing her' has autism and an intellectual disability as court hears victim now 'fears for her safety'

  • An autistic child sex offender has an 'intellectual disability' it has been revealed
  • Christoper Irwin, 34, allegedly lured a girl, 7, into a derelict house in Sydney
  • She is now traumatised from the alleged incident and 'very scared for her safety'
  • Irwin had previously been convicted after looking at child pornography websites

A convicted child sex offender accused luring a girl into a derelict house before attempting to undress her suffers from autism and an 'intellectual disability', a court has heard.

Christopher Irwin, 34, was formally refused bail when he appeared via video link with gelled-back blond hair in Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday.

He is accused of taking the seven-year-old girl into a deserted house in Macquarie Fields, south-west Sydney, at 4pm on Friday, May 31.

Hero neighbours followed Irwin and performed a citizen's arrest after they allegedly saw him attempting to take off her clothes.

The young girl Irwin allegedly snatched is now 'very scared for her safety,' court documents reveal.

Irwin made no further application for release, uttering only 'Yep' when he was briefly spoken to during his Wednesday court appearance.

The court heard how the greenskeeper has autism and suffers from an unknown 'intellectual disability.'

On Tuesday Daily Mail Australia revealed how the 34-year-old was a 'loner' whose housemates had to set strict ground rules for him once they discovered his criminal history.

A former housemate of Irwin's said they had put 'rules' in place during their time living together because of his behaviour.

Irwin had previously been convicted of child pornography offences, it was revealed in a brief bail hearing at Parramatta Bail Court after he was charged on Saturday.

The housemate said he was unaware he was living with a convicted sex offender until after he moved in about four years ago.

'There were a few threats made about what would happen if he was caught doing it [sex offending] again, but we banned him from Facebook because we didn't want him having any contact with our friends,' the former housemate said.

'He struggled intellectually and he'd have to be told to clean up after himself and to do things like his laundry.

'He didn't know how to talk to people properly, either - all he could talk about with any kind of knowledge was grass. He was a greenskeeper at a golf course and he'd go to work and then come home - that was his life.'

The former housemate said Irwin had lived in south-west Sydney all his life, but had been raised by his grandparents and other relatives.

'Chris was raised by his grandparents, but later he lived in a caravan out in his aunt's front yard because I don't think he and his grandfather got along,' he said.

'His grandmother tried to support him as much as she could - she would come over once a month and deliver food and clean up for him.

'I found him to be very harmless so it didn't shock me to hear he'd tried to befriend a kid, but it did shock me about the other allegations.'

Irwin allegedly approached the girl as she played with other children in the front yard of her grandmother's home and said: 'Come with me, I want to show you something.'

He allegedly took his young victim by the hand, walked her into the empty home and locked the front door.

A neighbour who had allegedly seen the youngster being led away alerted the girl's grandmother.

Together they ran down the street in search of the terrified young girl.

Inside the abandoned home Irwin had allegedly removed the girl's jumper and told her: 'Be quiet and wait for your Nan to go and I'll let you go.'

Soon other neighbours forced their way inside and detained Irwin until police arrived.
