Hathras: Two dozen people injured as minority community groups clash after Eid namaz

AGRA: Around two dozen people were injured in a clash between two groups of people from the minority community after an area councillor’s son accidentally bumped his motorcycle into an elderly woman in Naurangabad area under Sikandrarao police jurisdiction in UP's Hathras on Wednesday after Eid’s namaz.
According to police, the clash was triggered off by a minor incident which took place after the area councillor Shagir Qureshi’s son, Abdullah Qureshi (18), who was driving a motorcycle rashly, bumped into a woman, Sadira (60), who fell on the road and sustained multiple injuries on her arms and feet.
When Sadira pointed out at Abdullah’s fault, he argued with her and left the place. However, later things turned ugly when supporters of a former councillor of the area, Hazi Umar, who is related to the injured women, reached Abdullah’s house.
There was a heated argument between Umar’s and Shagir’s supporters and within a few seconds the groups started pelting stones at each other, leaving several injured.
Police, who reached the spot, resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. Though the situation was brought under control, the groups again came face to face at police station and allegedly assaulted each other.
Talking to TOI, Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Siddhartha Verma said that three FIRs have been registered in this case. Two FIRs were registered on the basis of complaints filed by each group and one by the police against 50 unidentified people, who were involved in a brawl at the police station.
