PATNA: Faced with acute faculty shortage,
Pataliputra University (PPU) has initiated the process of appointment of guest lecturers on temporary basis in science, arts and commerce streams. Candidates in science stream will be interviewed at the university headquarters from June 11 to 15.
PPU vice-chancellor Prof Gulab Chand Ram Jaiswal said the university has received online applications in large numbers for the guest faculty in science, arts and commerce streams and it has shortlisted the applicants on merit for interview. The PPU will strictly follow the UGC guidelines while selecting guest faculty, he said, adding each guest lecturer would be paid maximum up to Rs25,000 per month only.
According to PPU media incharge Prof B K Mangalam, the interview for mathematics will start on June 11, followed by guest faculty members for chemistry, physics,
botany and zoology. “The university has received applications even from the passouts from Delhi University, JNU, BHU and Allahabad University,” he said .
According to sources, the university has already started 11 PG departments at different centres from the current academic session. It has also sent a proposal to the state government for its approval for appointment of teachers for the PG courses. The university requires 1:4 faculty strength to run the PG departments smoothly, sources said.
The university has sent a proposal to the state government to sanction at least 18 posts of professor, 36 of associate professor and 72 of assistant professor for all PG departments. The university has also submitted the number of ministerial staff required for the PG departments, sources said, adding the university will incur about Rs17 crore per year to meet the requirements of PG departments, including salary payments to faulty teachers and ministerial staff.
Meanwhile, Raj Bhavan and state government have given approval for holding interviews for the appointment of guest faculty members for the PG and UG constituent colleges under PPU.
