Gurgaon: Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (
MCG) has issued notices to six contractors for delays in
civic work allotted to them.
The contractors have also been asked to give reasons for the delays and explain why their contracts should not be terminated.
An internal assessment, headed by MCG commissioner Yashpal
Yadav, has revealed that many civic projects are running behind their schedules.
The notices have been issued to send a strong message to all contractors and check such delays, according to
officials.
“We are regularly monitoring the status of ongoing civic work in the city and found out that some projects have been delayed. We are issuing notices to all contractors, who are responsible for delays, according to relevant clauses in the municipal Act,” said a senior MCG official.
He added that if the six contractors failed to submit satisfactory replies about the delays, they would be fined, as well.
One of the civic projects that has got delayed is the development work in Basai. The corporation had set a deadline of
May first week for the work.
However, not even 10% of the work has been completed, according to officials.
Similarly, the project of installing swings in parks in all eight wards was to be completed by May but is still going on. Sources within the corporation said that the delay in civic work had led to resentment among the public, and many complaints were being received about the same.
The corporation’s survey to monitor the status of ongoing civic work has also revealed that at least two councillors are responsible for delaying work in their respective wards. The main reason behind the delays were differences between the councillors or between councillor and officials.
MCG’s scheme of exchange of land in lieu of redundant or encroached revenue roads hasn’t kicked off largely due to resistance from councillors. Councillors have alleged that corporation officials are giving away land to developers for their own vested interests.
