Contaminated well water used

The city Corporation has issued notice for temporary shutdown of a restaurant near Kazhakuttam, after several techies who visited the place in the past few days were taken ill. According to health wing officials of the Corporation, the issue arose due to contaminated water from a well within the premises of the Monsoon Days restaurant.

“Water from the well was used for all purposes in the restaurant. The water is contaminated as it is located in a low lying area. The water was routed through an electric purifier. The issue occurred because the purifier went out-of-order last week, and the owners noticed it only after some of the customers returned with complaints,” said a health wing official who visited the restaurant on Tuesday.

Waste management

The civic body has now asked the owners to install pipelines of the Kerala Water Authority and also ensure facilities for waste management within the premises.

Several employees working in Technopark had experienced vomiting, fever, loose motion and body pain, after having food from the restaurant two days ago. Although it was suspected to be a case of food poisoning, contaminated water was found to be the reason later.

In January, more than a hundred people working in Technopark had fallen ill after having food from restaurants in the locality. The reason then was found to be water supplied in plastic cans by private agencies.
